Quite Possibly The BEST Cake Ever

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you... the Opera Cake (courtesy of Schubert's Bakery)

I had this cake when I went over to my cousin's house for his birthday. You can't tell from the picture above, but there is A LOT of stuff packed into that thin cake.  The following is Schubert's description of the cake: "Another Schubert's favorite; hazelnut sponge with chocolate truffle and mocha-praline filling topped with toasted almonds."

Now what you all have been waiting for... the close up shots.

Your typical cake will be fluffy and spongy in texture. This... is not your typical cake. It has the perfect texture as the cake part is not too fluffy and dry, and the chocolate and mocha fillings aren't too sweet either. This is a very rich cake where you only need to eat a small piece to be satisfied (kind of like Italian gelato, where they pack it so there is less air, so you don't need to eat as much compared to regular ice cream, but I digress; back to the cake). There are also sugar particles on the bottom of the cake to give it an extra little crunch. In summary, this cake is nothing short of perfection. = 9 = 9... that's right, I give it two tongue licks for yumminess.

visit http://www.schuberts-bakery.com/ to check out their other cakes (note: they're not cheap. the opera cake alone is $37 for the 8"x12" size and goes up to $125 for the 18"x26" size)

til next time,

read this and thought it was kinda funny. "U$C hoo?" says the owl.

So when Matt Leinart was still unemployed Saturday during the Raiders' first 15 minutes of league-sanctioned cogitation, the old impulses underwent a test -- and flat-lined. The Raiders picked Texas safety Michael Huff, and coach Art Shell explained that the decision wasn't an insult to the USC quarterback, whom he called "Mike Leinart."

A few minutes later, Shell referred to the other Heisman winner in the draft as "Michael Bush."

Yup... it's spring break for me. So here is the much anticipated Hungry-Man series. First, let it be pointed out that this is the Hungry-MAN series. All you lightweights out there (ahem... ladies...) should skip this post as none of you will ever be able to eat all the food. So you amateurs out there like the baby faced Chuckie should stick with Kids Cuisine or maybe Banquet brand. Now, on to the review.

The first item in the Hungry-Man line is...

Beer Battered Chicken Strips and Potato Wedges w/ Cheese Sauce

That's right! There is ONE POUND of food contained in this package, and only a supreme heavyweight champion of the WORLD such as myself can handle such a thing. The first thing you need to recognize before cooking frozen dinners is what the thing you're cooking actually is. In this case, the food item has been pre-fried (both the chicken and the fries). That means that this item would taste best if reheated in the oven (or conventional oven). Don't... I repeat... DON'T be lazy and heat this up using the microwave. Yes, you'll save time, but your mouth won't be thanking you when you eat soggy fried chicken and limp fries. Instead, prepare ahead of time and stick this in the oven before you want to eat (cooking time is 35-40 minutes in the oven). Here is the final result:

(Note: the milk iced tea does not come with the meal)

On to the review:

Taste: Hold on, give me a minute to wipe off the drool from my keyboard. YES, these really are THAT good (well, as far as frozen dinners go). The chicken was white meat, but with the batter it was perfectly seasoned. Not too salty, and not too bland. YUM. The fries were also great. Not the normal fries you would normally get with a frozen dinner, instead these were SEASONED fries. The cheese sauce made it that much more special as it added another flavor to indulge your tastebuds with. Rating: 4.0/5.0

Texture: This depends on whether or not you heeded my warning. If you microwaved this, you should be shot (or at least never allowed to come near food again). Now, if you listened to me and baked it in the oven, you'll notice that the batter on the chicken is still very crispy and the white meat inside is tender as a black man's love song. Of course this isn't as good as if you made this from scratch and ate it right after the deepfrying, but you gotta quit complaining because this is a lot less work. Rating: 4.0/5.0

Health: As usual, I have not looked at the nutritional information on the back of the box. I will only assume that it is not the healthiest thing in the world to be eating. I deduced this using the following inequality... Fried Food = Lots of Grease. So my recommendation is that you eat this maybe once every two weeks at most. Even a supreme physical being such as myself could not survive long if I ate this every other day. However, chicken is chicken and potatos are potatos. So I won't give it a zero. Rating: 1.0/5.0

Tune in next time for another review in the HUNGRY-MAN series. So... til next time...

Hungryman Frozen dinners must wait... because something just came today...

Torani SYRUPS!!! somehow I must have accidentally ordered two pink grapefruits... >:|

The great thing about these syrups is that you can mix and match them to create various blends of soda pop. All you do is add 1 or more of these flavors to sparkling water and you will have magically created your own Italian soda. You can also add these syrups to your shaved ice or even to some ice tea. Passionfruit iced tea anyone? How bout some mango peach iced tea... = 9  The possiblities are endless... well not really but you get the point.

So next time you are in da BAY Urrrrrea, stop by Cafe FOODCRICKET and have a drink on the house. = )

If you have any ideas or recipes involving the products shown above, please do not hesitate to contact Foodcricket about them. YOUR recipe could be one of the chosen ones that ends up on this webpage.
